Shutters for the Living Room

The New England Shutter Company have installed Manhattan shutters at a private residence in London. The image below shows the Cafe Style shutters in 89mm blades. This style of shutter allows the light to flood in whilst adding an element of privacy by screening the lower half of the window.

KX (’Kicks’) Club, Chelsea

The New England Shutter Company have installed custom window shutters at the private members club, KX (’Kicks”) in Chelsea. Thorp Design approached The New England Shutter Company to create custom made Manhattan shutters for the Member’s Lounge and Gym. Luxurious dark brown faux leather shutters and tulipwood painted in a bitter chocolate colour add a luxurious atmosphere to the KX Club.

Taylor Made project

We were first approached by Taylor Made Joinery Interiors ltd, who were carrying out a re-fit of the offices of a large bank in the City of London. They came to our showroom to discuss the project and then emailed their requirements; a total of 15 Soho shutter panels, acting as a static screen dividing up office space.

The approximate sizes were 2650 high and approx 650 wide. Soho blades were to be 15mm, thicker than standard 9mm. The stiles were to be the same width as the Soho blades, 65mm. All joints between the rails and stiles were to be mortice joints, thus giving maximum strength.

The client also requested the shutters be 42mm x 65mm and constructed in sawn European Oak, finished with 20% sheen level class 1 fire retardant lacquer. All timbers were to be FSC certified. All drawings and sizes were to be supplied by the client.

I got involved at this stage and worked on the project, getting the drawings and sizes to a workable brief for our factory.

All turned out looking great and feed back from the clients was very positive. In fact they are ordering some more- a great result.
